Eat These and Say Goodbye to Acne!

They say that beauty radiates from the inside out, which is why one of the many things that you may notice about a person who has a very unhealthy diet and lifestyle is what is reflected by their outer appearance, particularly the skin.  Different reasons can be attributed to the appearance of acne and other skin blemishes, but one that can be easily corrected is unhealthy diet.   What we put in our body can influence how our body functions as a whole, even the quality of our skin.  With just a simple diet change, a mindful choice of eating healthy by consuming foods that are rich in vitamins and mineral you can say goodbye to acne, and say hello to a flawless skin.

WHY FOOD AND SKIN CONDITION GO HAND IN HAND

Sometimes people are inclined to forget the fact that skin is an organ of the body (it is the biggest one at that!), which makes it benefit from an individual’s diet, just like the other organs of that individual do.  To elaborate on how a healthy nutritional regimen can help the condition on ones skin, you see the skin’s foundation or framework is made up of two things called elastin and collagen.  These components are enveloped by a substance called hyaluronic acid.  In order for the skin to build a solid foundation, there is a need to produce enough collagen, which can be instigated by the body’s intake of enough vitamins, minerals, and the necessary protein.  In general, the skin benefits most from a diet that abounds with Vitamins A, C, D, and E, and the minerals selenium and zinc.

Here are some foods that experts suggest you include in your diet to prevent some of these skin problematic conditions – inflammation, acne breakouts, dryness

Blueberries

Author of Skin Rules and New York dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman, MD, advises everyone who wants to have clear and young looking skin to include blueberries to their diet.  According to her, blueberries are rich in antioxidants that can be helpful to the skin as a whole.  Research show that consuming enough of the superfood blueberries can help slow down signs of aging, which can be attributed to its antioxidant properties.  Free radicals have the ability to cause damage to cells, and it is the work of antioxidants to fight against these free radicals to prevent cell/skin damage.  With enough of this superfood in your diet, it can make your skin look young.

Aside from its antioxidant properties, blueberries can help fight acne, too, because it contains a high concentration of salicylates. You may have heard of acne medicines containing salicylic acid, well, salicylates provide the salt part of it.  Salicylic acid is known for having the ability to fight bacteria, unblock clogged pores, and eliminate dead skin cells.  So, the next time you make a stop at the grocery store, make sure to stock up on this superfood.

Avocados

Avocados are delicious, and now, as Dr. Jaliman explains, they are great for the skin, too, because of their hydrating qualities.  The nutrient packed food contains more than twenty vitamins and minerals, some of them are Vitamins B, C, E, and K, niacin, magnesium, potassium, folate, riboflavin, beta-carotene, lutein, and much more. The humble avocado is also well known by its other name, which is nature’s butter.  It is called as so because it contains a large quantity of natural oils and because of its creamy texture.  Aside from including this yummy fruit in your recipes, you can also whip up some DIY facials masks.

Brown Rice and Beans

There are times that grains can cause skin breakouts, but there is a way to eat your share of grains and steer clear of breakouts – choose the healthy grains instead!  According to nutrition expert, Jennifer M. Brown, MS, RD, to thwart incidents of skin breakouts, a diet should be one that reduces inflammation that takes place in the body.  And an anti-inflammatory diet should be composed of foods that are rich in protein and whole grains. A great choice for whole grains is brown rice, which is also rich in fiber – something that is also essential in maintaining a healthy skin, as fiber can eliminate toxins that can sometime accompany some foods that people eat.

Other foods that are proven to help prevent acne and promote a clear healthy skin are pumpkin seeds and cauliflower.  But there are other foods out there, and to inform you, just examine their nutritional content and let it guide you to in mindfully choosing the food that you put inside your body.
