Simone Biles Shares the One Tool She Uses to Help Manage Her Anxiety
You may know her as a gold-medal-winning Olympic gymnast, but Simone Biles is so much more than that. In fact, she has been open about her struggles with anxiety and how it affects her day-to-day life.
As someone who also battles this mental health issue on a daily basis, I found myself relating to many of the things she discussed in an interview with GymCastic’s Gina Paulsen. To help others who are struggling with the same thing, we’re going to explore some of what she said in detail today!
How did she deal with her anxiety?
Simone Biles first started dealing with anxiety during her early days as a gymnast. As she puts it, “I was always so worried about what people thought of me and my performances.” This led to a lot of self-doubt and insecurity, which are two common symptoms of anxiety.
To combat these negative thoughts and feelings, Biles developed a toolkit that she still uses today. This includes things like positive affirmations, deep breathing exercises, and journaling. By using these tools regularly, she has been able to manage her anxiety effectively and stay focused on her goals.
While this may seem like an impossible task for some people, it’s important to remember that everyone is different. What works for one person might not work for the next. The key is to find what works for you and stick with it!
What are some ways she combats her anxiety?
The first way Simone Biles combats her anxiety, as said above, is by using tools like positive affirmations or deep breathing exercises when feeling stressed out. She also uses music in order to calm down when struggling with the disorder during a competition.
Even just writing about her thoughts has helped in calming herself down before big events that may cause this mental health issue to flare up even more than normal. By finding what helps YOU manage your own stress levels, you can use these things any time of day in order to keep yourself healthy both physically and mentally!
In addition, here are some other helpful tips that have been shared by Simone Biles in order to help manage anxiety:
-Talk openly about how you’re feeling with those around you. This will help them understand and support you better.
-Identify your personal stressors and try to avoid or reduce them as much as possible.
-Practice self-care regularly, even if it’s something small like taking a relaxing bath or reading your favorite book.
-Be patient with yourself; accept that there may be good days and bad days, but always keep moving forward!
