Disorders like heightened anxiousness are quite common on a global level. But what’s sad is that despite people realizing it, researchers and policymakers haven’t enough attention given to such conditions. Such a shame! And here’s another mind-boggling fact – women are almost twice as likely to be affected by anxiety disorders as compared to men.
Yep, we know you’re wondering why, and that’s why we’ve put together all the facts right here.
Why women?
The first reason is the basic difference in brain chemistry and hormonal fluctuations.
It’s no secret that the reproductive events across a woman’s life are a reason for hormonal fluctuations. When a woman is pregnant, the surge in her estrogen and progesterone levels increases the risk of contracting obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), leading to obsessions, repetitive thoughts, and devitalizing. As a result, women tend to come up with different coping mechanisms, and the struggle that results from this effort causes anxiety.
Research proves that chronic stress leads to severe brain shrinkage and reduced memory, often found in people in their 40s and 50s, especially a more severe and alarming change in women. In fact, various studies claim women are more likely to experience physical and mental abuse than men, which makes it quite evident why women go through various anxiety disorders.

Coming to the facts at a global level, do you know in which part of the world women suffer from anxiety disorders the most? It’s North America and Western Europe. Though there’s no solid evidence why these geographies are hit so badly, experts assume it’s because of cultural differences with some other parts of the world. Well, we definitely need a better assessment than that to get to the depth of it.
Is there something that can be done?
Anxiety disorders start early in life and escalate within no time. Therefore, it’s very important to seek help from a professional at the time when the symptoms are still evolving. If ignored, the situation can become quite severe and lead to other major disorders like depression. In such conditions, the success of any other treatment becomes very hard. Something you don’t want to go through!
If you suspect that you’re suffering from anxiety, first things first, know that there’s no need to panic. All you need is early recognition of AD symptoms so that the right approach can be administered immediately. There are so many practices and therapies out there that have shown magnificent results within no time. Plus, there’s medication, lifestyle changes, exercise, and yoga/meditation that can help make you feel much better.

And then say it out loud, “it’s just a string of thoughts, and it will pass”. Trust us, it works wonders!
